Continuing Education

Paraquad’s Continuing Education classes provide the tools to develop independent living skills. Participants work together as a community to build social skills through interactions with each other. Class topics may include cooking, social skills, book club, and community access.


Continuing Education class requirements:

  • You live in St. Louis City or St. Louis County

  • You are 18 or older

  • Your disability must have appeared before you were 22 years old and reflect your need for individually planned and coordinated services throughout your life or for an extended period.

  • You are not in high school

You have a diagnosed and documented developmental disability that is attributable to:

  • Intellectual Disability

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Autism

  • Epilepsy

  • A learning disability related to brain dysfunction

You have a substantial functional limitation in at least two of the following life areas:

  • Self-care

  • Understanding and communicating language

  • Learning

  • Self-direction

  • Living independently or being economically self-sufficient

  • Physical mobility

The Productive Living Board for St. Louis County Citizens with Developmental Disabilities and the St. Louis Office of Developmental Disability Resources provide funding.

Continuing Education Courses

*students will choose one class that best fits their interests and schedules

  • Students will learn all about kitchen safety and how to cook quick everyday meals!

  • This class is for students who have taken Computers I and II. Students will learn how to create an e-mail, use the internet and browse safely, and learn about applications like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.

  • Book Clubs are for everyone with any kind of reading skill! Treasure Island is set in the days of sailing ships and pirates. Help Jim Hawkins with his search for the buried treasure of an evil pirate, Captain Flint.

    We use the illustrated book “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson

Sexuality Education Course

  • The goal of sexuality education class is to give correct information and have discussions with each other about topics surrounding sex, healthy relationships, informed consent, and advocacy. This will help people in the group make their own decisions about sexuality and become sexual self-advocates.

New Students: Call (314) 289-4251 to sign up. We will make an appointment to meet you and help you fill out Continuing Education paperwork. If you have a guardian, you need permission to become a student. Your guardian must sign papers before you start class.

When and where are classes?

Classes are in person at Paraquad.

Will I get the class I want?

Some classes fill up very fast. Registration is on a first call first serve basis.
