St. Louis Continuing Education Classes
For adults with developmental disabilities in St. Louis, Continuing Education classes provide tools as they work to develop independent living skills. Participants work together as a community to build independent living skills through interactions with each other.
Continuing Education Class Topics
Our skill-building classes cover a range of topics that will help adults with disabilities learn to navigate adult life independently. Paraquad’s Continuing Education lessons may involve:
Cooking basic meals
Developing greater social skills
Reading books
Exploring community access.
Continuing Education Class Requirements
Paraquad’s Continuing Education classes always welcome new applicants. However, all applicants must meet the following requirements for admission:
You live in St. Louis City or St. Louis County.
You are 18 or older.
You have a diagnosed and documented disability.
Your disability must have appeared before you were 22 years old and reflect your need for individually planned and coordinated services throughout your life or for an extended period.
You are not currently in high school.
About Our Participants
In our St. Louis Continuing Education classes, participants display a variety of diagnosed and documented disabilities. While not an exhaustive list, Paraquad has previously welcomed people with the following developmental disabilities:
Intellectual Disability
Cerebral Palsy
Autism
Epilepsy
Learning Disabilities Related to Brain Dysfunction
In our skill-building classes, participants also often have substantial functional limitations in at least two of the following life areas:

Understanding and Communicating Language

Living Independently or Being Economically Self-Sufficient

Funding for Our Skill-Building Classes
Our Continuing Education classes are made possible through funding from multiple agencies. Currently, our programming receives funding from the Productive Living Board for St. Louis County Citizens with Developmental Disabilities and the St. Louis Office of Developmental Disability Resources.

Continuing Education Courses
*Students will choose one class that best fits their interests and schedules

Students will learn all about kitchen safety and how to cook quick everyday meals!

This class is for students who have taken Computers I and II. Students will learn how to create an e-mail, use the internet and browse safely, and learn about applications like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.

Book Clubs are for everyone with any kind of reading skill! Treasure Island is set in the days of sailing ships and pirates. Help Jim Hawkins with his search for the buried treasure of an evil pirate, Captain Flint.
We use the illustrated book “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson

Sexuality Education Course

The goal of sexuality education class is to give correct information and have discussions with each other about topics surrounding sex, healthy relationships, informed consent, and advocacy. This will help people in the group make their own decisions about sexuality and become sexual self-advocates.

New Students: Call (314) 289-4251 to sign up. We will make an appointment to meet you and help you fill out Continuing Education paperwork. If you have a guardian, you need permission to become a student. Your guardian must sign papers before you start class.
When and where are classes?
Classes are in person at Paraquad.
Will I get the class I want?
Some classes fill up very fast. Registration is on a first call first serve basis.
