Peer Programs See Unprecedented Growth in 2025

Paraquad’s peer programs marked our most impactful year yet in 2025, with unprecedented growth in participation, deeper levels of engagement, and lasting connections forged among members. The organization witnessed a surge in meaningful interactions that extended far beyond scheduled meetings, as individuals supported one another in building more independent and fulfilling lives. From newcomers adjusting to recent diagnoses to long-time participants seeking community, the programs provided essential knowledge, confidence, and practical tools for navigating daily challenges. This momentum reflected the dedication of both staff and peers in creating spaces where everyone felt truly seen and valued.

A standout achievement was the launch of the new All-Women’s Support Group, designed specifically for women with a variety of disabilities. The group quickly gained traction and became one of the most successful and consistently well-attended offerings, offering a safe, empowering environment for open dialogue and mutual encouragement.

The Spinal Cord Injury Support Group enjoyed its strongest year to date, fueled by a vibrant calendar of inclusive social outings that brought members together in fun, accessible settings. Events ranged from cheering at a baseball game and soccer match, to exploring the City Foundry, belting out tunes during karaoke nights, and rolling strikes at bowling alleys.

These shared experiences strengthened bonds, with many participants forming friendships that carried over into independent plans—attending concerts, sporting events, and casual gatherings on their own initiative. The year closed on a high note with the expansion of adaptive gaming equipment, which proved immensely popular and boosted overall program engagement by opening up new ways for members to connect and compete.Peer support extended powerfully into the community through expanded hospital outreach and stronger partnerships with rehab centers. Hospital visits by trained peers offered timely encouragement and information to patients facing new disabilities, resulting in impressive follow-through rates. Many individuals who received these visits went on to join Paraquad’s gym, support groups, and other programs weeks or even months after discharge—clear evidence of how early, relatable peer connection can spark long-term participation and independence.

Overall, 2025 demonstrated the transformative power of Paraquad’s peer-driven approach, turning moments of challenge into opportunities for growth, friendship, and renewed purpose.
